Latin American Airlines Announce Merger

LAN Airlines of Chile and TAM Airlines of Brazil have just announced plans to merge. Both of these airlines have substantial operations in their home countries, and a merger would creat Latin America's largest airline.

It is expected that after the merger, both airlines will continue their separate identities, with TAM's headquarters remaining in Sao Paulo and LAN's in Santiago.  Passenger service to 23 countries and over 115 cities would be provided by the merger of LAN and TAM.
