Profile of an Airline

00October 10, 2009 in Blog

Ever wonder how many aircraft an airline owns or how many people work for an airline you admire? Since you are either a pilot or interested in becoming a pilot, quite possibly a professional pilot, you may find the statistics of one airline interesting.  As research is available on other airlines, this blog will list them.

Republic Airlines is a little-known, U.S. commuter airline, which was recently the victor in a bankruptcy-court auction to buy Frontier Airlines. Republic Airlines won out over Southwest Airlines, a large, well-known U.S. airline. Previously for a time Republic was Frontier’s regional partner.

Republic Airlines is a profitable company that had revenues (sales) of USD1.5 billion in 2008. It is based in Indianapolis, Indiana. The carrier fies for the five largest network airlines — Delta, American, United, Continental, and US Airways) who set schedules, buy fuel and sell tickets for Republic.

Republic Airways has three commuter units of its own: Republic Airlines, Chautauqua Airlines and Shuttle America. It owns or leases 210 regional jets and has 4,500 employees. In 2008, it carried 19 million passengers. Last year it had a profit of USD 85million.
