The Biggest Airline in the World
Maybe you've heard about the merger of United Airlines (UAL) and Continental Airlines. Did you know that when the merger is complete, that it will form the world's largest airline? It will have the capability of flying nearly 150 million passengers a year.
The chief executives of the two airlines agree that combining the carriers should result in a savings of US $1 billion a year plus generate signficant additional revenue. The airlines' networks (where they fly) in both the U.S. and internationally complement each other with little overlap, which will further enhance the efficiency of the poster-merger airline.
The two airlines employ 88,000 pilots, maintenance personnel, ticket agents etc. The unions of both airlines have given their tentative approval of the merger. United and Continental together is expected to create a more financially stable and stronger airline. If you are interested in becoming a pilot, see www.pea.com to learn more about pilot training.
